Just over a year ago, Stephanie and her family relocated to beautiful and diverse Chile. This marks her 4th continental move; she has lived throughout her native United States, Japan, and Italy. (This international experience has led to quite a few travel opportunities! A selection can be viewed on the website). Her residential studio is located in Las Condes, complete with full hair-and-makeup services and wardrobe styling.
You may remember Lizzy’s dogs, Brice & Brody, from earlier posts. However, they have a new (gorgeous) sister – Sheba! While she looks a lot like Brody – both mastiffs – they have such different personalities! Sheba’s so calm, relaxed… and reluctant to be in front of the camera! Brody, on the other hand, knows what a handsome boy he is… and he’s definitely NOT camera-shy! Brice… well, Brice is just Brice. 🙂 Aside from being the only dog Hailey just loves to play with, he’s got the cutest little “snort” whenever he’s happy. It’s so cute to see three doggie siblings who just love each other so much!

Look at how big those paws are!
Sheba again, showing off her great Mastiff wrinkles.
A family portrait of the whole family
A pair of mastiffs. Sheba’s laying down. Brody is sitting up. (Lizzy calls this “the engagement portrait”!)
The three together. Don’t they all look happy!
A more relaxed family portrait of everybody
It’s been months since I’ve begged of my loyal readers to help with something… And therefore, it’s high-time I abuse your readership for my own personal advancement. 😉 Actually, it’s nothing huge, but I’d be forever obliged if you’d click the following link and simply “vote” for my image. Yes, it’s a popularity contest – but little would make me happier than winning a popularity contest too! The actual judging for best in category is done by PDN magazine editors. For those of you who aren’t familiar with PDN, it’s one of the leading market publications in the industry today. I got hooked on it in college while working at BU Photo Services.
Anyway, please vote here! http://facesphotocontest.com/bin/Rate?image_id=1009410782
One day, I will remember to post on my blog when things are still relevant… But this is probably as close as you guys are gonna get. My solo exhibition at the Sembler Gallery, via Veneto – Roma, will be closing in only 5 days! (Hey, better late than never.)
Below is the writeup from the April 12th edition of the US Embassy’s VenetoViews newspaper regarding the exhibit. You could say I have an “in” with the editor. 🙂
To read at full-size, right-click and select “open image in new tab”
And below are some quick snapshots of the hanging exhibit
The wall of monochrome pet portraiture
The wall of high-dynamic-range travel photography
HDR Triptych of Burano – which has seen better color… This image didn’t really do it justice. Go see the exhibit!
The Roman Forum canvas borrowed from my living room. Photographed this last December.
People checking out the exhibit. Burano seems to be the big hit.

Doesn’t she look just like a miniature black panther? Of course, that’s why her owners named her “Jag”! She’s the teeny-tiniest little (full-grown) kitty I’ve ever seen. Super adorable, with gorgeous black fur and big yellow eyes. She’s just the cutest little thing. Unlike Andy, I have to admit that Jag wasn’t so excited about having her portrait done. She wasn’t overly excited about a can of tuna… she seemed to appreciate the leftover dry food that Rental Cat refused to eat though! I’m glad somebody liked it anyway.
I’m pretty sure she’s sharpening her claws… 😉
Teeny Tiny Jaguar!
How pretty are those eyes? Love this one of her.
Ok, so I know I normally don’t do props… but she just loved (chewing on) her ribbon so much!
My absolute favorite. This will be her LOVEmutts image!
Dave assisted me on Cat-Wrangling for the session. I’m pretty sure Jag thinks she’s in charge though!
This is Andy, one of the absolute cutest kitties I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! Completely easy to control, totally happy to be photographed. Why you ask? I think the answer might be the full can of Bumblebee tuna he scarfed down during the session! Funniest part, though… he was SO excited to eat tuna he literally WAGGED his tongue!
Now, normally when I edit down cat images, I pull out all the images where the cat looks mad or he’s running away (or both). In this case, Andy was perfectly (purr-fectly! haha, get it?) happy to be there, stayed put… his edits, however, were removing all the ones where his tongue was happily hanging out of his mouth! (Ok, well most – I included a really cute one of him.)
Andy will be one of the stars in the upcoming LOVEmutts book. If you have an adopted mutt (cat or dog!) please email the studio!
How cute is this face?!
Gray on Gray, in Gray. My favorite. He works great in Black and White!
See! There’s that tongue again. Pbthththt!
Absolutely love his big green eyes. Just gorgeous
Purrrr… (content after tuna!)
Spinning! (Again, for tuna)
Look at this… regularly scheduled blog posts!
Here are a few recent ones… The I Family found me through the US Embassy Auction last April, and we finally found some time to meet this past weekend. On Sunday, we did a great family portrait – first in the studio, then out in beautiful Villa Borghese. What’s even more fun? The family portrait turned into a Family Boat Ride – in front of a beautiful Greek temple, surrounded by colorful autumn trees and lots of ducks.
And of course, Miss Tina, mixed-breed Terrier, will be making an appearance in the upcoming LOVEmutts!
One for the book. Tina, looking super-adorable!
The three kids together. 🙂
Mom & Dad have a minute to themselves.
And Tina makes 3… 🙂
Out at Villa Borghese, having a great time
A few more from Borghese
Love the blue with those bright yellow autumn leaves
And we ended the day with a boat-ride around the park. (Tina’s with me. Don’t worry.)
I have a cat. Well, kinda.
He’s my rental-cat, here until the airline can find a place for him to go back to his mommy and daddy. This is Trigger – cat of fellow photographer friend, Erin. Erin had to relocate to the United States, but thanks to the military being wonderful at planning, she is forced to ship him back to the US apart from her (rather than take him on the plane with the family and dogs… go figure.) So now we’re trying to find a plane for Trigger to take.
Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to plan anything in Italy… it just doesn’t work. So perhaps she’ll fly in to pick up Mr.Cat (which would be cool because we could FINALLY spend some time in Rome together)… or I’m just getting a new cat. It’s a good thing he’s amazingly cute, because this whole passive-aggressive thing he’s got going on with me just isn’t working. Right now, he’s apparently ticked that he’s locked in the studio – I know this because he just head-butted my softbox. I think it hurt him more than the equipment – but he at least got to shoot me a dirty look during it. “Take that, stupid human”
Yes! This is the look!
Oh fine. But there better be a belly rub in it for me…
This is right before he bit me. (not too hard though.)
Hey, woah… what’s that?
My favorite… Purrrrrr-retty kitty!
On Sunday, we lucked out with some absolutely gorgeous weather and great light over at the Capitoline Hill. Where better to do a family portrait in Rome? Anyway, we had a great time with this family of 6 (including the sweet little Shih tzu, Essence). And the most fantastic kids I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! They listen better to posing instructions better than most adults… heck, better than most of the professional models! They have quite a career ahead of them… 🙂
On the steps of Michelangelo’s Capitoline Hill. (Cannot wait to see the canvas of this, it’s going to look amazing!)
Everyone’s happy… except the dog!
A nice one in front of the Colosseum.
Then we moved inside for some studio “stuff”…
My favorite of mom & dad together! 🙂
How cute is she!?
“Ok guys, I’m done… you go on without me!”
The last maternity / pet session I photographed was WAAAY less cute than this adorable family of three. Three being mom, dad, and dog… for now at least. Unlike the last “pet maternity session” there were no hairless rats to be found last night! (That doesn’t mean there aren’t any… it’s Rome after all… it just means I didn’t find them!)
Can we tell I haven’t had a caffè today? Just kinda rambling. But I guess rambling is better than not posting for… oh, my… it’s been awhile again hasn’t it. Well hopefully the cuteness of Nelson and just how adorable of a couple Claire and Charlie are will make up for that! Here’s a couple from yesterday’s session.
Oh, and I know I was all excited about that new gray border I custom designed… Well, Lightroom decided it didn’t like it anymore and crashes whenever I try to load it up. So… back to the Photoshop stamp for now.
I love happy couples that need no direction to look cute for the camera!
Claire’s cute little baby bump!
Love this. Stunning!
And a few of Mr. Nelson. He’s a very happy puppy dog.
My favorite. Considering a reshoot of this image for next year.
You know that rule I have about “ears up / tongue in” dog portraiture? Um… yeah. 🙂
After we finished up, I released the Shetland Sheepmonster and gave both her and Nelson the remaining hotdog pieces. Well Nelson dropped his and Hailey wasn’t quite fast enough to snatch it up before Nelson swallowed it. I kid you not… my little 20 lb. sheltie sprung into action and attempted to TACKLE Nelson who’s at least twice her size, if not more. Of course she couldn’t really do much. He growled back at her, but he could have eaten her in one gulp if he wanted. Hailey ran behind my legs like “protect me!”… yeah right, dumb dog. You started it! I should really teach her to share better… Come to think of it, she’s quite the instigator!
